Dols can be produced from a variety of materials: porcelain, plastic, fabric, wool and string. It is quite difficult to enumerate all. 

 

How to make a doll with your hands?

 

The most popular material at the moment is platic.

Plastic is the perfect medium to create 'live' realistic dolls and fairytale characters. It allows you to transfer any facial expressions and it retains it's warmth. After you have masterd the basic techniques of working with the medium, the creative possibilities are endless and you can experiment to your heart's delight. 

 

You can't classify a handmade doll as just a toy or a souvenir. The artist becomes a sculptor, hairdresser, fashion designer and director of the holistic design and character of the doll. 

 

Modern art dolls can be made from classical porcelain, plastic or even fabric. 

 

There are two types of plastic materials used for the technique of doll making. 

 

1. Self-drying, open air clay, for example:  paperclay, das, sculpt dry, darwi, aero

2. Heat drying, for example:  Fimo and cernit, which need to be dried in the oven. 

 

In order to create a masterpiece, the creator has to be in harmony with the doll and through skillful embodiment, the doll must reflect emotions and feelings reflected from the creator.

 

The doll has to touch the soul of the beholder.
